## How to choose the right psychological test

If you do not know where to start, think about **the main complaint** that brought you here and choose the test that describes it most directly. Do you struggle to concentrate and finish what you start? Start with the **ADHD test**. Do you live with constant worry you cannot switch off? The **anxiety test**. Have you had no energy or motivation for weeks? The **depression test**. Has work drained you? The **burnout test**.

If the complaint is vague ("I'm not okay", "something doesn't fit"), a good strategy is to take **two or three related tests** and compare the results: anxiety and insomnia often go together, chronic stress looks a lot like burnout, and low self-esteem frequently accompanies social anxiety or emotional dependency. At the end of every test you will find suggestions for complementary tests.

Remember that all tests are free and anonymous, that you can take as many as you like, and that none of them replaces a professional assessment.

## Neurodevelopment tests: ADHD, dyslexia, autism and giftedness

**Neurodevelopmental** conditions are present from childhood, although many people only identify them in adulthood, when the demands of work, study or family life overwhelm the compensation strategies they had built. They share one trait: they are not illnesses you "catch" but **different ways the brain works**.

In this category you will find the **adult ADHD test** (inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity), the **dyslexia test** (persistent reading, writing and spelling difficulties), the **adult autism (ASD) test** (social communication, sensory sensitivity, routines and intense interests) and the **giftedness test** (indicators of high intellectual ability, creativity and emotional intensity). These conditions often coexist: so-called *twice-exceptionality* (giftedness together with ADHD, dyslexia or autism) is more common than people think, so it may be worth taking more than one test from this group.

## Mood and anxiety tests: anxiety, depression, OCD, social anxiety and bipolar disorder

**Mood** and **anxiety** disorders are the most common mental health problems: it is estimated that one in four people will experience them at some point in their lives. They usually respond very well to psychological treatment, and the sooner they are identified, the shorter and more effective the intervention.

Here you will find the **anxiety test** (excessive worry, tension and physical symptoms, adapted from the GAD-7), the **depression test** (low mood, loss of interest and hopelessness, adapted from the PHQ-9), the **OCD test** (obsessions, compulsions and rituals), the **social anxiety test** (fear of judgement and avoidance of social situations) and the **bipolar disorder test** (episodes of elation and energy alternating with crashes). If your symptoms include thoughts of harming yourself, do not wait for the result: in Spain, the **024 line** is available 24 hours a day; elsewhere, contact your local emergency number.

## Wellbeing and relationship tests: stress, burnout, insomnia, self-esteem, emotional dependency and eating

This category groups difficulties that do not always constitute a disorder, but that erode quality of life and, if they persist, can lead to anxiety or depression. They are also the ones that benefit most from habit changes and brief psychological intervention.

It includes the **stress test** (perceived stress over the past month), the **burnout test** (exhaustion, cynicism and loss of efficacy at work), the **insomnia test** (sleep quality and daytime consequences), the **self-esteem test** (how you value and treat yourself), the **emotional dependency test** (excessive need for a partner and fear of abandonment) and the **eating disorder test** (relationship with food, weight and body image). Many of them share roots: sustained stress disrupts sleep, poor sleep worsens burnout, and self-esteem shapes how we relate to others and how we treat our bodies.

## What all our tests have in common

All MyPsicoTest tests follow the same principles. They are **based on clinical criteria** (DSM-5-TR and ICD-11) and on the structure of **validated screening scales**; they use **clear response scales** with four or five options; they take **3 to 6 minutes**; they provide a **total score with indicative levels** and, in most cases, a **breakdown by area**; and they are scored **entirely on your device**, with no sign-up and no stored answers.

In addition, every page includes a complete guide to the condition the test measures: what it is, what its symptoms are, how it differs from similar conditions, how it is diagnosed and which treatments have the strongest evidence. We want you to leave not just with a number, but with a better understanding of what is going on.

## What to do with your result

A **low** result is reassuring, but do not ignore the reason you took the test: perhaps another questionnaire describes your discomfort better. A **moderate or high** result is a clear invitation to consult a professional; take it to the first session, because it helps guide the assessment.

At the end of any test we recommend [**Xènia Capel Salcedo**](https://psicologaigualada.es/en/therapist-psychologist-igualada/), a licensed clinical psychologist who offers [online therapy](https://psicologaigualada.es/en/online-therapy-online-therapist/) and a free first consultation call. It is the simplest way to turn a suspicion into an answer and, if needed, into a treatment plan.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many tests are there and in which categories?

There are 15 tests organised into three categories: neurodevelopment (ADHD, dyslexia, autism, giftedness), mood and anxiety (anxiety, depression, OCD, social anxiety, bipolar disorder) and wellbeing and relationships (stress, burnout, insomnia, self-esteem, emotional dependency, eating disorders).

### Can I take several tests in a row?

Yes. All are free and there is no limit. In fact, taking related tests is advisable when the main complaint is vague, because many conditions share symptoms.

### Which test should I take if I don't know what's wrong?

Start with the one that describes your main complaint (concentration, worry, low mood, exhaustion, sleep…). If you are still unsure, the anxiety, depression and stress tests are a good starting point because they cover the most common problems.

### Are the tests valid for teenagers?

They are written with adults in mind. A teenager can take them with the guidance of an adult, but assessing minors always requires a professional specialised in child and adolescent psychology.

### How often can I retake a test?

Whenever you like. If you want to measure change, it is most useful to retake it after two to four weeks, answering with the same reference period.

### What happens to my data when I take a test?

Nothing: the test is scored in your browser and no answer is sent or stored. We do not ask for a sign-up or personal data.
